Looking after Strategic Blue’s customers, I’ve seen a number of different use cases for the Financial Adaptor service. One of the more interesting examples has been enabling customers to change their payment terms month-on-month, depending on their needs. It was contractually agreed that a customer could pay in 45, 60 or 90-day payment terms to Strategic Blue, whilst we paid AWS on standard 30-day payment terms. This type of contractual arrangement was hugely helpful and able to improve the customer’s cash flow during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Strategic Blue works heavily in the education sector, with individual researchers as well as Universities including the University of York and University of California, San Diego. One of the most popular requests from customers in the education sector is the ability to pay upfront for Strategic Blue credits, which can then be drawn down over time. This is particularly of use to customers who have a use-it-or-lose-it budget, and need to spend a certain amount of money in advance. The Strategic Blue customer operations team then tracks the credits and funds left and updates the customer accordingly to prevent any overspend risk.
